I'm all about velvet-flocked wallpapers, ornate femme fatale-ish vanity tables, and brocade-covered footstools that add a certain moody
je ne sais quoi to an otherwise bland room. Most of the time, when I see pieces like that, they are set up in a room where you can easily picture a
young Jack Nicholson lurking in the shadows with a cigarette and slurring out, "How do you like them apples?" So, when I got the new
Brocade Home catalogue (as I'm sure some of you also received), I was pleasantly surprised to see the fall collection staged in light, airy rooms--it was great to finally see these film noir-ish staples in a new, modernized way. Thoughts?
love, love, love...looks so new and fresh...the new catalog is simply fantastic with so many great items, i can't wait to buy!!

while i think their staging is nice (and it does make me want to whitewash my mother's apt to highlight its sugar spun molding) i find their merchandise overpriced and all of their catalogues so mind-numbingly similar that i can't even get it up to spend much time flipping through them anymore.

if you understand the catalog world at all you will see that every company sends out several versions of the same thing as it is impossible to constantly offer new merchandise, photograph it over and over again and run a business. try flipping thru pottery barns 200 pages of the same things they've been running for years--now that's painful!!
