While my brother is currently in a "black leather + chrome + Asahi BeerBot = bachelor" phase right now (very 80s, very Wall Street), I've been trying to see if there are any parallels between our homes. So far, the only thing I've come up with are the needlepoint pieces that our mother gave us--and that doesn't count.
As different as our homes may be, it doesn't hold a candle to the difference between the homes of AT reader Kelley and her older brother. While Kelley is in the process of revamping her studio apartment with vintage Paul McCobb chairs and refinishing her recently acquired Danish credenza, her brother credits the fine folks at Anheuser-Busch as his decorating inspiration. "There are so many great things happening in this photo of his apartment," she mused, "Like...what happened to the toy car missing in the front row on the dresser? And how does his girlfriend stand this? Sometimes, I can't believe we're related."
Do you and your siblings have similar homes or are your interior decorating styles complete opposites?
Hilarious. Reminds me of my uncle's pad.

Wow. I think that's my sister's room.

Pretty funny to view this with my very own brother sitting next to me. He says "That's a pretty neat guy's apartment, almost obsessively so. Look at how the poster is framed..."

Well, I (and my siblings) still live at home (it's not as sad as it sounds - I'm the eldest at twenty-one and can't afford to move out), but we all have our different... styles.
I love colour - my room is purple and yellow, with vintage maps, little things from overseas, and sleek black furniture (...Ikea, admittedly, but still!) all over the place. And a lot of books! My sister (sixteen) has the whole... 'poor artistic bohemian' thing going on - artful posters of musicians, clips from street mags, fairy lights strung through the head of her bed, and canvases EVERYWHERE. She has floral bedding, and... technically, so do I, but it's more colourful and geometric whereas hers is more traditional. It's quite cluttered, quite messy.
Brother 1 (nineteen) is very... beige. It's painted neatly (in neutrals - creams and browns), but I think he'd be happy with anything. There's a bunch of DVD box sets, some empty alcohol bottles, a marijuana poster (he doesn't smoke, as far as I know), an old TV, and his computer, and that's about it for decoration. It's very... spartan. And brother 2 (fourteen) does not, apparently, give a crap, and will leave stuff anywhere, with the occasional music poster crookedly blu-tacked to the walls. Hell, he even still has the screwdrivers lying around from building an Ikea desk which he just dumps stuf fon - from three months ago!
So yeah - not one of my siblings have similar artistic style. My sister's is probably the closest, and that's solely because we're the only two who give a crap. But even we're complete opposites! (Largely because she's messy and a packrat, and I'm a neat freak...)

Our place is FULL of color and India-inspired design...though a friend once described it as "Dharma-and-Greg-meet-the-suburbs." (not totally sure what she meant, but when other people hear that, they say it makes sense).
My sister's has scary white walls and is more "Grandma's-house-meets-1993." Lots of fake ivy and window treatments stuffed with tissue paper.

My little sister still lives at home (she's 17) but she and I share a similar decorating sense. She has a cute mid-century radiogram as a sideboard/dresser (so jealous! I've been trying to find one with no luck) and an Andy Warhol print I would gladly steal. My dad's an artist who loves mid-century style and we grew up very much under his influence, so it makes sense that we would both share a style.
