Trendspotting: What's On The Horizon For The HomeVia PointClickHome

Over on NY, Keehnan spotlit plaid, a big trend in fashion that's trickling down into the home (check out Kristin's tongue-in-cheek look at how plaid can work when it's done with a sense of humour). Most of us would like to keep our homes updated but we can't afford to redo them every year. But, just like with our clothing, if we have great basics -- a great couch, the perfect dining room table, a cool bed frame -- we can change out our accessories to keep our homes looking fresh. We recently received an email from PointClick Home spotlighting some of the trends they noticed at Paris's home design show, Maison & Objet. Check 'em out, after the jump...

Caravan: You may not be able to see Russia from your backyard, but bringing a little Eastern European flair into your home is hot. Think of the intricate patterns of Suzanis and look for it on other products. Small items with this pattern can add up to a lot of visual impact.
Glacier: Could our worries about global warming be at the heart of this trend? This is a trend that's been on the horizon for a while. Shell lamps, pattern on pattern white or items made of glass that gives the impression of melting (think Lindsey Adelman's Bubble Chandeliers which we spotted this past spring at ICFF). Stock up on similar items as the holidays near and use them all year round.
Modern Patchwork: When times are tough, we stay home and take up crafts. Patchwork is a traditional way to create something beautiful from scraps and the colorful result is a trend in its own right. Rugs, quilts, pillows are the expected forms but look for the pattern in other items as well. Jump on this bandwagon with a throw from a crafts fair used in an unexpected way - as a tablecloth or to reupholster a chair or ottoman.
Mustard and Plum: No, they're not characters from the game CLUE, but an old mix that's new again. Purple's been on the horizon for a while as has yellow. Put the two together for something retro and new. Try a deep purple velvet pillow on a yellow chair or aubergine walls in a bathroom with yellow tiling.
Red and Orange: We love putting colours that are already next to each other on the colour wheel together. Somehow, it tones them down and, even with two or three strong colours, creates an impression of calm. We've already got a lot of this particular colour mix going on in our own home.
