Keeping Decor Neutral to Enhance the View

100909neutralview-01.jpg While flipping through the latest issue of Tribeza, a local Austin magazine, we came across a home built by the architecture firm Andersson and Wise. Nicknamed the "Tower House," we were struck the most by the gorgeous windows and neutral furnishings...

100909neutralview-02.jpg Rather than fill an upstairs room with tons of color, the designers of the tower residence kept the furnishings neutral, allowing the beautiful natural surroundings seen through the ample windows be the spotlight. We felt simliarly about the photo from a Moonridge, Los Angeles home we found on Flickr, where the simple interior takes a backseat to the good-looking backyard seen through floor to ceiling windows. While we love the idea of lots of color and have been thoroughly enjoying all the entries in this year's Room for Color contest, we can't help but appreciate the wisdom in keeping the decor simple when you've got a great view from a window.

What do you think about the idea of pairing neutral furnishings and gorgeous window views? Do you have a great-looking view from one of your home's windows that you like to showcase? How do you do it? Tell us about your gorgeous views!

The rub is that you need a view in order for this to work!

I'd try to bring the view inside by using a little of the same colors inside. Greens, blues, brown, grey, Not much, just some.....so your eye doesn't really notice where the home stops and the view begins.

Otherwise, to me, it feels like being stuck in a lifeless box while life is just beyond your reach outside.
