Some goals for the space might be to create a cozy nook or to open up a tight spot with a small space solution. Instead of incorporating artwork over the dining room table, Jenelle opts for bamboo panels as wall decor. In a previous apartment, they served the place of a headboard in the bedroom. And now the textured bamboo panels provide coziness and warmth to the kitchen. We also like how the two placed side by side make the ceiling appear much taller and help to open up the seating area.

Great idea for renters! Thank you!

That works. I also used a straw beach matt and that looked surprisingly nice on a wall too. I think this would look even better if the wall behind the bamboo was a color for a nice contrast or maybe even a dark color rather than a bright one.

I just bought a huge (6' by7') bamboo blind on Craigslist that I am using for this very purpose! It really looks great!

I use one of these tacked horizontally as a "headboard". It takes up no space, but makes the bed look a little more finished.

This works great. I bought a damaged bamboo rug on clearance from a Ross and have it on the wall behind the bed as a fake headboard. The texture and color brings a lot of warmth to the room, and its so light it was very easy to hang and did not have to do much damage to the rental walls. Always a plus!

I once did something similar with a huge sheet of plexiglass that I painted on one side. A whole different dynamic- ultra sleek-modern- but similar purpose and function. Plus- you can paint anything from a pattern to a solid color or picture.

I like the idea, but agree that a different wall color would make the panels a little more interesting. Or a more interesting pendant lamp with a colored shade. A small, sculptural plant would also look nice there on the table, perhaps an orchid.

I am planning on doing this in my boyfriend's bedroom as a headboard. Home Depot actually has bamboo 'fencing' that is just wide enough for a queen size bed, and it's so long, you could make an art installation and then some! Thanks for reminding me of this project!

I love how functional these things are. In Japan summertime brings out innumerable practical bamboo house decor, and fall brings sales on the same items. I've been looking for a wall treatment for my bathroom, but never thought to put bamboo panels up. I stroke my chin contemplatively.
