LA Times Home & Garden Roundup 01.10.09
Los Angeles

11009-lat01.jpgAlong with the other trends we've noted, it seems that growing your own food is making a comeback. This week the Los Angeles Times Home & Garden section looks at victory gardens, a wartime concept that's growing in popularity as people look at ways to create a sense of community, connect to the source of the food they eat and trim their food budget. Budgeting's not only a hallmark of your grandparent's time, it's a necessity if you're restoring your home. But, as we've learned time and again on AT, limited financial resources are often fertile soil for the most creative solutions; here the restoration of an Eichler house is another example. In other examples of what's old being new again, the Scout finds, among other things, a bedroom for kids with a Dr. Suess theme and a grandfather clock for today while Lost LA looks examines an artist's colony, a concept we think is due for a resurgence. More, pics and links, after the jump...

Though I think the restoration is beautifully done, the article says it was $50,000, not $5,000. Still relatively reasonable, but a very different level of budget.
