Inspiration: Gold Pattern on Cork Board
LA Times 5.08.08

050808lat1.jpgOne thing that caught our attention from yesterday's hotel inspiration feature in the LA Times was this cork pillar that's in the lobby of the Palihouse Holloway Hotel... (detail shot after the jump...)

050908latwall2.jpgWe like the idea of a using a more informal "mood board" type installation in a setting outside of the traditional workspace or office. However, what we really liked was the gold pattern they put on top of the cork. It adds a nice dimensional texture and dresses up the plain surface. Might be a fun idea in a kitchen area, or on a plain door or cabinet. According to the caption, the hotel had "A scenic artist for films hand-stamped th cork with a metallic brocade pattern." We're thinking you could easily replicate this look by using your own stencil and some gold spray paint. Has anyone tried this? (source)

i like little coffee nook so you can sit with your cup of tea and examine the details of the board.

This is even more stunning in person. I've eaten brunch here several times if only to sit in awe of the beautiful design.

Don't you need to have something like ply behind the cork or a little space? Is the cork alone thick enough to stick a tack in it? I sometimes wonder about that...
