LA Times H&G 5.17.07: Eastern Columbia Lofts

The much hyped revamp of the beautiful Art Deco-style Eastern Columbia building, is now open and a reality. The Kor Group (of Viceroy fame) with a reported $80 million renovation reopened the building to 147 lofts. Kelly Wearstler designed the lobby. The LA Times peeked into four units who are all first time home buyers. It's intersting to see the varying difference in their interiors. Check out the slideshow and read the story here.

Are there any AT:LA readers that live in there? Anyone know anyone that lives in there? How do you like it? What has the experience of loft living in LA been like? Would any of you consider living there? Share in the comments!

I live in the Eastern Columbia, and, as I think I raved in an earlier posting about downtown lofts, life here is even better than I'd hoped it would be. Not only am I living in this beautiful landmark, for which I have great affection, but my neighbors are so friendly and fun and helpful. It's a wonderful community living inside a wonderful building. Can't say enough good things about it.

And yes, fvlaura, this is indeed the building that Maddie Hayes hung from in the Moonlighting pilot.

P.S. I know that at least two of my neighbors are fellow AT freaks. We'll see if they post . . .
