LA Times Home & Garden Round Up 3.13.08

031308lat2b.jpgIn addition to the great house tour we posted earlier, there's a bunch of other noteable things in today's LA Times House & Garden section, including a new rug collection by Kelly Wearstler for the Rug Company, gorgeous lace-like sculptures by Cal Lane, an interview with Allison Arieff (author of the book Prefab)and a piece on modern fireplaces.

RE: Kelly Wearstler's designs for The Rug Company
Many of us know that a lot of big name designers out there are not actually responsible for the great design that emerges from their firms. They have talented teams of people cranking out the fabulous ideas...and handing them over to the ever-powerful "names" & "brands" who employ them.
Design is constantly reincarnating...some say nothing is original anymore. Perhaps true?
But some design is pure thievery. And when these stolen designs are sold to big companies for large sums of money
it's quite a blow to the originator. I should know...I used to work for Kelly.

I'm going to the launch party @ the Rug Co tonight...I hope to be impressed (I did really like that veined marble rug)

hejiranyc... obviously none of your ideas/creations have been good enough to steal.

Create something original, then watch someone take credit, profit and get exceptional press from it... only to further their career where they'll no doubt continue to rip off/take credit for other's designs.

The real talent behind the face/name never get the credit they should. This isn't something new. And it'll keep happening unless people stand up for what is rightfully theirs.

lovesunny has a right to state her pov about something she probably created. Its quite a blow, it happens to designers all the time.

and btw, who says 'player hate' anymore
