LA Times Home & Garden Roundup 09.13.08
Los Angeles

atla-091308-hg01.jpgThere were two articles in particular that caught our eye in the Los Angeles Times Home Section today and they both centered around skateboarders, the colder weather's answer to the surf culture that's a big part of LA's legacy. The first, a survey of the renovation of a Manhattan Beach house by skateboarder and Etnies founder Pierre André Senizergues (which some of you may have already seen), is a good lesson on how to incorporate your passion into your home in a way that's cool and not kitschy. Skateboards form shelves, seating, even a riff on the classic George Nelson clock in a house that Senizergues describes as melding "the French sensibilty [of his heritage] to the California lifestyle." We think, to quote a favorite surfer, it's pretty bitchin'. A companion article showcases the line of skateboard inspired furniture Senizergues and his partner Gil Le Bon De Lapointe have begun manufacturing (which we've blogged before). Check it out, especially if, like our colleague Gregory, your twin passions are skateboarding and midcentury modern furnishings. Other articles of interest this week include a look at the kitchen makeover of HGTV's Rate My Space host; a discussion of high end home security; a Brentwood home whose recent renovation kept a firm eye on outdoor entertaining; while in The Scout, David A. Keeps suggests that a favorite centerpiece of my aunt's, glass fruit, may be making a comeback just in time to decorate your holiday table (in fact, a friend picked up a bunch of glass grapes at last month's Rose Bowl). Links, and more, after the jump...
