Good Feng Shui That's what yesterday's LA Time's House & Garden's feature story revolved around. The literal translation for "feng shui" means "wind and water." It is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve "harmony with the environment." Read more about Feng Shui (pronounced "fung shway") here. Lisa Falsetto, who has a successful nutrition bar company, believes she "invited" her good fortune as a result of consulting a Feng Shui master. They showcased her Ventura home that was designed according to the Feng Shui master's recommendations. Read and see the results here.

Do you believe in Feng Shui? Have you "feng shui'd" your house? (please share in the comments)

ask five feng shui masters what fung shui is and you'll get five different answers. I think there's a lot of good philosophy in the generalized ideas of feng shui, but most of the resources out there tend be a sort of pop-feng shui, like a college student who took Psych 101 and now drops tidbits like an expert. There's certainly a lot I don't understand about feng shui, so perhaps I speak from ignorance... or just from the bargain books at the local Barnes and Noble...

I don't know much about it but from what I know, a lot of it just seems to be common sense and good vibes.

Its current popularity, I chock up to the exoticization of all things Asian, which annoys me no end.

I believe in magickal thinking - we can manipulate this 'frienfly universe' that we live in to provide us with ease and good fortune. And we can call it feng shui if that helps.

Speak the truth mjoe. This is just another fetishization of Asian culture. On top of that it's simply another flavor of geomancy.

Personally I believe that all beds must be placed at a 45 degree angle or you will risk angering Odin. However, if you bed must be placed at another angle you can help neutralize Odin's wrath by placing a small statue of a dog facing North.

I prefer to make my own decisions regarding furniture arrangment.
