apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Yesterday's LA Times House & Garden featured the Santa Monica apartment of Bernard Brucha, a commercial interior designer. He created the space on a "bare-bones budget", his 1000 square foot home and office mixes IKEA, found object, and some DIY projects. He has been investing in clasic pieces, such as a Noguchi floor lamp. Currently a renter, in the article he offers some advice...

"When I shop, what I imaging is, 'Am I still going to love it in 10 years?' Furniture isn't supposed to be disposable, "he says. "It should be made to last and have a second life. Certain pieces my cost a little more, but I am going to that Noguchi lamp when I am 70."

We especially love his coffee table, which he made, using leftover materials that is often used for airplane floors. The deep trough-like design offers tons of additional storage that stays out of sight, but stays easily accesible.

Coffee table looks like a casket from potter's field...overall what a nice bright space.

Truly inspiring for us renters. It hits the right spot.. We're prepping to transition to a new apartment in the next month.
