Looking for treasures? Tucked away off on Pacific Coast Highway, just a little ways north before the clatter of Main Beach in Laguna, is a little shop named Trove. Owners Bobby and Heather, scour the globe for an eclectic selection of extremely unique antiques. Once you enter, you can be sure that you will be surrounded by things you've never seen. They explain, "We go for more unusual pieces- the harder-to-come-by sort...things that are odd but still romantic."
There are no restrictions to genre or style when it comes to their buying habits. When asked what type of things are most popular from their store, they said "...It's a little hard to say since our inventory and the mood of the store changes so frequently. Last month it was all antique French and English iron and marble, urns, garden furniture, Gustavian. This month we bought more muted grays and cement colors. 18th century piecdes in original paint, some neo classical French pieces... a ten-foot church steeple from 1790... We buy what we love. No rules. Just rhyme."
We particularly love their collection of Astier de Villatte cermaics that they just got in from France. Grab them now or else you'll have to wait until October for the next delivery!
If you're in the market for pieces with "soul",
Trove is a definite must for your hit list. Check our more at their
website.
Trove is one of the few remaining shops willing to take risks these days. The photos above don't do it justice. It seems to take on a new life every couple of months. Right now there are some very intriguing mixed media pieces by Ron Pippin. Thank you, Trove, for not selling out! It seems everyone is playing it safe with the economy where it is but there are a few out there that never will: Trove, Obsolete, Blackman Cruz.... anyone know of others?
