Bird Cage Lamps by Roost

Could Bird Cage lamps be the new chandelier? We surely wouldn't mind, especially if they looked like these ones by Roost! They're woven from buri (the center stalk of a palm frond) and give instant exotic flavor. We love the whimsical bird shapes stenciled onto the pendant light shade that is inside...

We first spotted these in Pasadena, at Dwell Furniture, off of South Lake, but they are also available online at Velocity Art and Design. However, they're a little pricey for our budget, starting at around $230. We're thinking that these could be a fun DIY project, perhaps using a small inexpensive pendant light kit, and a vintage birdcage (or new to look vintage?) of your liking. You could easily stencil your own design on the shade as well (we're thinking butterflies could make a great option too...)- spark any ideas?
