DIY Paper Clip Chandelier Kits

You might remember seeing a pendant chandelier fashioned out of the most humble of stationery, the paper clip, awhile ago here on Apartment Therapy. If you've always fancied having something similar gracing your living or dining room, now you can make your own with a DIY kit…

Etsy dealer ReDesignTechnologies is selling Paper Clip lighting kits in various shapes and sizes, ranging in price from $155 for the Roulette Toss Paper Clip Chandelier up to $300 for the dramatic Starry Starry Night Romanesque Chandelier. The kits also come with a 60 watt Saatco half mirror bulb and all wiring hardware. We're thinking these might be even better with pre-painted or with a spray paint of your choosing, softening the metallic finish into something more texturally soft.

Can so easily be made without the overpriced kit.

If you follow the link to the Etsy shop where these are being sold, the listed prices are for the completed chandeliers, and it says that a kit is available at a deeply discounted price...

I also think it's Satco bulb, rather than 'Saatco.'

I like these! Not sure I would pay for a completed one, but I don't imagine they would be too hard for a DIY'er, and kudos to the person who came up with the idea..

I would actually add crystals to it to break up the 'office industrial' feel you might get, but I dig the shadows these cast on the ceiling.

Reminds me of Dad's fishing basket.

I applaud the thought but would want something more ornate?

I thought it was chicken wire at first. I don't like seeing light bulbs. but always like to see inventive use of ordinary materials.

Thank you Apartment Therapy and AT subscribers! Excellent suggestions posted here. I would love to try a multi-color piece with those ever-present rainbow paper clips that eventually creep into most offices (you know the ones I mean).

P.S. Comicgeek, I absolutely promise that I don't send just a box of paper clips and supplies - its all arranged into a nice fractal patterned chandelier that you wire together from supplied CSA (Canadian Standards Approved) parts. That saves me the expense of hiring a registered electrician to wire and certify the piece.

Kindest Regards,

Penelope Bridge
