Hettich International's "Lite Inside" LED Closet Rails

112108atlahettich.jpgWe're sure you could DIY something like this using some string LED lights and a hollowed out metal or wood rod, but when it comes to electrical in the closet, we lean toward manufactured and UL tested solutions to decrease the chance of fire hazards. But we're really liking this idea of integrating lighting directly into the closet's rod system. We have a walk-in closet that goes deep and far back into an abyss which requires a spelunker's lighting gear, so the idea of a low-energy lighting source to illuminate our way to a proper outfit seems like something many of us would benefit from each early morn (or late evening, you party animals)...

The wireless rail system automatically "turns on" when a door is opened, and conveniently does the opposite when you close your closet. As you can see from the source link below, currently this "Lite inside" lighted closet rail system from Hettich International is marked as a luxury item. But how long before the likes of IKEA and Target catch on? We can't wait.

Gregory--

That IS an IKEA PAX wardrobe system that this rail is installed in.

Please let us know when this comes available in the US - I want this for my wardrobe system!

bepsf: I'll see you in line once this is available...I'd redo our whole closet to accommodate for this.

Actually, we just removed a Hettich system from our master closet because it was impossible to get support from the company regarding different components (the people who installed it must never have stored clothing before). Oddly, our home was previously owned by an architect (and a minor rock star) so I've always wondered if Hettich was just a "to the trade" sort of thing.

I will say that everything I could find was really neat - I just couldn't convince anyone to sell it to me!

I am desperate for some lighting in my closet. This gives me ideas. only problem is there's no power source in or near the closet.

this lighting would be perfect for me in my dark walk-in.

here's an idea. two light sources at both ends of a rod, shining into the hole punched rod. a rod-containing random star constellations of differential sizes while there is less contact of the light source with the clothes. i am submitting this to the patent office!

ok. rioja wine calls me...m

I would combine the drilled holes idea, and the rope light idea! Stick the rope lights IN a metal pipe! Possible cheap knockoff idea? Maybe!

To me, those little lights look annoying. I'd go for battery powered wall lights in a dark closet.
