ICFF Day One: Eggcrate Dancer Lamp from Recolector Diseno

atla-051708-recolector01.jpg
One of the things that we gravitated towards at ICFF was the the number of items made from re-purposed materials. What could be discarded as trash has been re-thought into new objects. One of these was this lamp from Recolector Diseno. And yes, it's made of egg crates...

atla-051708-recolector03.jpgWhat began as a project to show local artisans how reusing materials could become a source of income, turned into a passion for Salvadorean designer Eugenio Menjivar, creating original designs based on the unique characteristics of found objects. In the Dancer, three shades, created from egg cartons, sit slightly askew, dancing, on a recycled iron base and held in place with recycled iron rods. Three different versions are available in three different colours -- violet, lime and black.

You've got to be kidding me.

My mom and her craft circle did stuff like this back in the 70s. It looked crappy then and it looks crappy now.

They look great in these photos but I agree with dblitz1, I think that in real life they might look quite crappy.

Reusing is great and all, but I'll bet these look like crap in person. The colors seem like too much, too.

Well.... let me tell you Guardabosque, and I hope these negative comments posted by these guys read this....
It is called ENVY! To have a great idea and to update it from the 70's (if it ever happened) can make many envious of the success these lamps have been at ICFF!
FOR STARTERS, NOT EVERYBODY is PRESELECTED to show at ICFF... ONLY THE BEST OF THE BEST! I have also seen these lamps in El Salvador AND have seen the final product at ICFF, and let me tell you.... THEY ROCK!!!!!!
Prensa japonesa.... española... revistas de renombre... you name it.... they all want a piece of him! :) ;)

Yea! mmmm. dblitz1, maybe you could have said to your mom and her craft circle on the 70's. hey!! mom this is a very good idea! maybe ¡?, maybe now we would have a world less polluted.
Maybe now you will have a different vision of beauty, perhaps your words would be different now. what do you think?
