Ikea FADO Lamps

ikea-in-the-home-04-27-.jpgTheeeey're Baaaack! We thought they were gone forever, but the Burbank Ikea has the spectacular FADO lamps back in stock. They're $9.99 (!!) and we swear they could be on a DWR shelf for $200. We put a dimmer on ours so it just sort of glows in the corner of the room.
NOTE:Ikea had a different version (like a dented ball) that still is on the floor but don’t be fooled by imitations. The FADO is back!

Those are sweet. I'm liking!

They're glass? I wonder what ikea would charge for shipping?

Love these! Own 2, but they're both currently "out of rotation", and in the closet. Soon re-emerge when I change out accessories again in the near future...

CB2 has some nice globe lights too - not for $9.99 - but priced within my stratosphere.

How do you add a dimmer? :(

Anokha--
I think he's talking about an inline dimmer. You plug the lamp's cord into the dimmer, and the dimmer into the wall. The dimmer has a sliding controller that controls the brightness (and warmth) of the light. You can find them pretty much anywhere.

question for Enrique or anyone else who owns the FADO lamp: Is there enough room to accommodate one of those energy-saving fluorescent bulbs that have the "normal" light bulb-style base? (you know how the fluorescent bulbs are "taller" so that often they protrude beyond the lampshade?)

sooj's post reminds me that fluorescent bulbs don't work with traditional dimmers.

Sooj, a fluorescent should work, notice the dimensions of the product:
Diameter: 10 "
Height: 9 "
Cord length: 7 ' 7 "

Bulb mentioned is:
Standard bulb E26 Max 75W

I actually bought my compact fluorescents at IKEA, near the checkout in bins, so if you're going there anyway, you can eyeball the compacts next to the lamp or ask a customer service person to help you with that.

You can also...Ack, well, I asked "Anna" and she sent me over to the FADO pendant lamp that doesn't give any more info.

Don't forget there are colored bulbs out there that might lend a different look for your FADO! Even in fluorescent:

There are some regular bulbs that look like stained glass too, I saw them at Target, and they might look neat in the FADO. Party bulbs. Even a bug light (the bright yellow bulbs) would look cool in a FADO. Like a big harvest moon!

I am surprised there is not a Glass Ball Lamp option. They are so classic and chic.
