Although the main part of Silver Lake's Sunset Junction might have lost some of its beloved design/furnishing shops thanks to rising rents (RIP Sunset Orange and The Den of Antiquity), we're happy to see a lovely new kid on the block pop east of the Junction, right next door to The Living Room...

Inside

I'm pretty sure the Den of Antiquity closed for remodeling. Are they never going to reopen now?

I went to "mercado" last weekend, it is pretty lame. the same designer candles, greeting cards and soap they stock at 50 stores just like it in LA. Nothing original or unique about it at all. Yes, the dog is cute - everything else in the place is so insufferably dull and ordinary it's hard to even focus. Banal is the new "hip".

I LOVE Mercado. It is by far my favorite store. I don't know what Wandab was on when he/she went there... but it was clouding her/his vision. Every time I go to Mercado I find the absolute perfect gift. I am so happy that they opened and hope they are there for many years to come.

mercado is refreshingly unlike any other store in los angeles.
thank goodness. and the ladies who own it are very nice and friendly. I love their take on salvaging vintage furniture. that chicken chair is amazing!!
plus they have complimentry gift-wrap, which is so simple yet uber chic.
i love it in there, it's my new favorite store!

Finally, Could not agree more with Wandab. Not to say the owners are not lovely people but it is like many other stores with the same things bought at te very many gift shows around .There are things to buy that are nice but nothing original or excitng. It not so much that I want to destroy the store just the stupid things written about it .Looks to me like there is another store where the inspiration for this one has come from in the neighborhood That has been around for years !

"Mercado" is my store, and I am proud of it. Michelle and I really do try and have things that are unique and special, These days in our global, "I want it now" world, where nothing is sacred, and everyone is an expert, this can be difficult. So we try and fill our store with things that make us happy, and things we hope our customers will enjoy. We do business with respect, kindness and generosity and ultimately try to offer a special, pleasant shopping experience to our community and friends. We truly cherish all of our loyal customers. To Wandab & Margaret; Wow, you must have been really disappointed to take the time to register and write such mean comments....I'm sorry you feel that way, maybe one day you will come back in and give us the opportunity to change your mind! Kindest regards, Chelsea Iovino / owner Mercado
