One of our favourite pleasures during the holidays is the colourful spectacle of outdoor ornamental lighting. But with conservation on our minds, lighting up homes and trees with decorative lighting seems like an energy inefficient extravagance, even with energy efficient LED bulb technology.
That is, until we saw these Solar-Powered String Lights from Gardener's Supply Company. Not only do these 102 LED bulbs illuminate 8-hours per charge, they're also untethered from outlets for easy outdoor placement and automatically turn on/off according to the time of day thanks to a light sensor. Even Rudolph would be envious of these glowing lights.

i love the idea of solar powered outdoor lights...unfortunately, i don't think that these would work too well here in seattle. damn cloud cover! (if anyone has tried solar powered lights in a cloudy area and has had it work though, please let me know!)
