It used to be that Urban Outfitters was hit-or-miss, and lately they've fallen mainly in the "miss" bin. (Um...bedazzled Keds, anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Yeah.) And we've heard mixed reviews on Urban's attempt at furniture. At worst, they're one "Everyone Loves a Hipster" tshirt shy of a Forever 21. At best, they're like the el cheapo depot version of a Jonathan Adler boutique. Which, when we found this sweet spindle lamp among the rubble of half-off kama sutra flashcards, is not necessarily a bad thing.

I was at UO last weekend and picked up a brown lampshade and this matching bedspread (which I plan to cut up and make into a cushion for my cedar chest) Oddly, I can't find the shade online, but it adds some needed pep to my too serious apt.

I've really enjoyed the furniture/housewares offerings at UO lately...maybe it's just me...

I agree, willalanjr. What's with all the Urban-bashing? I liked the bedazzled Keds (or at least the sequined ones). I didn't get them, but I did try them on and dance around all funky fresh. Leave Urban Alone! She's a human!--er, nevermind.

i just bought their zebra print rug for my apartment curing (it's in my style tray). also that branch like jewelry stand. i almost added that lamp in white to my order. i can stand the misses when the hits are so sweet (and cheap).

these lamps are cute.
but urban outfitters is an evil, evil company. rather than buy designs from independent designers, they rip concepts, then replicate and mass produce on the cheap for greater profit, usually altering the design just enough to appear like a coincidence. not the case with the cupcake bomber tshirt they, the concept of which they stole from johnny cupcakes. though it may seem like two entities might have come up with the same concept independently of one another, johnny cupcakes has also revealed that they courted his designs, did not return his samples after they decided not to do business with one another, and "coincidentally" they soon had their own cupcake bomber tshirt in their repetoire.
