Vintage Wallpaper Lightswitch Covers

070108_light.jpgWe love unexpected details and lightswitch covers definitely fall into that category. These have all been made by hand from vintage wallpaper or ephemera and are surprisingly inexpensive:

Sold through Eekowire plates start at $12. We're pretty sure we could make one of these ourselves, but we're not totally sure we'd want to spend the time. Bet we'd be able to get these guys to make one out of a piece of wallpaper we send them (or a vintage magazine).

I found these switchplates on Etsy a while ago but haven't bought any yet.

They're pretty sassy and half the price of the above mentioned switchplates.

Oh, some of them have vintage burlesque images on them and might be not safe for work viewing.

My word. I used to make switch covers myself all the time! Takes about five minutes, using a screwdriver, tape, and whatever motif from a magazine you find appropriate. Easy peasy.

I've been looking at switchplate and outlet covers lately, I haven't found exactly what I want, but here are some of the links I saved.

Anthropologie has cute covers sometimes, but they are sort of pricey. I ususally look through the sale room at the store searching for bargains. I thought these were cute, but there are others:

Ceramic switchplates -- they have a pretty big collection

Sassy switches -- not everything is my taste, but they have a wide variety, organized by motif and color.

i have clear plastic (acrylic?) switchplates i bought from the 99 cent store long ago; you just put in your own images/wallpaper/ephemera in and they are protected by the cover. also, you don't have to glue anything in so you can change the look easily.

@janbrady

Thanks!

I love Etsy for things like this. Another favorite with a burlesque theme is Belles Lettres who has these incredible nesting dolls among other things.
