We recently spied this new item over at West Elm - the wall-mounted pendant lamp. We posed a question to you all a few weeks ago about options for the narrow space next to our couch and think this lighting fixture may be the solution to our challenge.
We did try one of your table ideas - CB2's Urban C table. We love the simplicity of the table and it did fit in the space. However we quickly realized that a table may not really work there. (i.e. There may have been a toe stubbing incident one night when getting a glass of water in the dark).
Since the space does not really accommodate a table afterall, we'll go with a wall mounted lamp, as a lot of you also suggested. We like the space saving solution and the flexibility of this swing-arm lamp. Even though the plug hangs down (which we initially didn't want) it seems to fit with the look of this lamp.

I love it! I really need something like this for either side of our bed, as there is a radiator on one side and a closet door on the other, hench NO room for tables. I love that I wouldn't have to have it hard-wired! I wonder how they would look though, too big? It's a king size bed... Hmmmmm.

I'd use a floorlamp instead - there's no need to put any more holes in the walls than necessary.

I also have been looking at this lamp but worry about dimensions; is the arm too long, the shade to large...? On the other hand the nightstands I'm thinking of using are on the smallish side and a wall mounted lamp would probably be best. I really like it, but I'm still hesistant.

I have spot in my place where I cant fit a floor lamp because the couch is next to the wall on the side where the floor lamp should go and has no clearance underneath. I am unable to mount anything to the ceiling because we have been forbidden to drill into the post tension concrete by the buildings structural engineer (something about voiding the HOA insurance policy), without an x-ray (way to expensive). So that lamp would be perfect except, that swing arm is huge. I think the only way that would work is its up higher than shown in the picture and if the shade was larger.
What I am thinking about doing is mounting an IKEA lack shelf to the wall behind the couch and then putting a lamp on that. I just have to decide if I want to loose another 6 inches of space in front of the couch.
Good luck, post photos when you figure it out.
