Look! Landing Strip

032508_land.jpgAlthough we still have lots of things we'd like to change about the new place, we're pretty happy with the functionality of our landing strip....

We bought 2 hooks from target and positioned the sideboard from Ikea right next to the door. When we come in, the purse and jacket go on the hooks and the keys and mail onto the cake stand. Anything we don't want to forget when we leave also goes on the cakestand, like things we want to mail and things we've borrowed that we want to remember to return. It's simple and it works. Things don't end up all over the dining room table or my desk or the floor. And we're big lovers of cake stands so this gives us a reason to use one every day.

It's so colorful, and the cake stand is genius!

I use the exact same IKEA sideboard for my landing strip -- it's fantastic for this purpose -- but I drop my keys, wallet, etc. into a turned bowl I keep inside the sideboard on the top shelf. My coat goes right into the closet on the other side of my front door. And, the mail goes into two lidded boxes on top. One for my mail and one for my girlfriend's.

fizzyizzy-the bag is bulga and is probably the most expensive thing I own. I got it at Nordstroms. I've had it for aover a year and still love it!

and sarahee--the lamp is a craigslist find. I think I paid about $30 and used a shade from one of my gramma's old lamps. I love the color and the shape!

Love it. I'm envious--I don't have space for a landing strip!

The cake plate is genius.

If there's anything I've learned from Martha Stewart, it's that every home needs a cake stand.
