Well, here's a big surprise: Los Angeles tumbled down from the 29th most expensive city in the world to live in to 42nd place in this year's Cost of Living Survey from Mercer Human Resource Consulting. The survey compares cities' cost of over 200 items in each location, including housing, transport, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment, and due to the weak American dollar, only Los Angeles and New York (New York is used as the baseline standard on the index scale) placed in the top 50 amongst U.S. cities.

It's surprising to note that our Northern Californian siblings up in San Francisco didn't make the list, but that might be because they save in commuting costs, despite steep rent. And who knew living in Kazakhstan would cost so much?
