3 Quirky Lamps To Try At Home

In our home, we like to mix it up with vintage finds and then throw in an offbeat item to make a statement. It usually comes in the form of an oversized lampshade which can be found inexpensively at the local thrift store. But that's not to say you can't make your own "wow" factor at home...

Marieke, an interior designer living in Amsterdam finds local inspiration at her outdoor market and design shows. She made the first lamp in our photo gallery from knit pom-poms and thread. A strand of golden yellow fringe around the base completes the look. It's fun, quirky and definitely deserves a second glance--perfect for the home's entryway or powder room. We also love the simplicity of the black shade without its fabric. Instead, wool thread wrapped around the wires lets light peek through. Additionally, teacups stacked to create a lamp base is charming and unique. The pastel colors of this lamp add to it's appeal and the tiny balls of trim add the perfect finishing touch.

My cat would have a field day with the hanging pom pom lamp!

Nope. Sorry. I don't like my DIY projects to actually look like I made it myself.

These are really interesting repurposing ideas. The teacup lamp is really interesting, although it would only fit in with very funky decor. I recently blogged about repurposing ladders for shelving: http://www.networx.com/member/Networx/blog/diy-ladder-bookslves---everybody-repurpo3

the photos are okay but I imagine in person these things would be really tacky. Is this the same person that wrote about that self made CD wall divider? ;/

@Suzy8track, mine too! I kinda like the look but the lamp would be on the floor in an instant with two cats trying to eat the puffballs.

i think the teacup lamp would be delightful in a small reading nook, with a cozy chair and a small table.

and i like the idea of the pompom lamp. i think i might do something similar to deck my lamps for christmas, using christmas ball ornaments. very festive!

Those pompom things look a lot like the 'warm fuzzies' my friends and I used to make and give out in high school. Scary scary flashbacks!

Looks like somebody spends a bit of time in the Amsterdam coffeehouses doesn't it?

#1 reminds me of the pom-poms we used to make to put on our roller skates. I had a pair of white leather roller skates with purple pom-poms. The roller rink was the place to be. I feel old.

Reminder: you have to live with those things in your house.

That pom-pom lamp is the most hilarious thing I've ever seen on this site (except maybe the ski jump bathroom).

It reminds me of something that the mother in the Australian movie The Castle would make. (Any crafters who haven't seen it, run to the video store. You. Will. Die.).
