6 Things We Love From the Spring CB2 Catalog

022609_cb2.jpgWe've been watching the future site of the LA CB2 like lovesick teenagers, longingly staring at the covered windows in the Sunset Plaza and desperate to know when it will unveil itself. The little sister to Crate and Barrel caters to a younger crowd, selling modern furniture and accessories at a more affordable price point (especially accessories). Their LA location is set to open 'in the Spring' which is soon (!) so to get the ball rolling we found 6 items that we love from the new catalog. We've still got organizing and our future home office on the brain so we chose things that would fit nicely into that theme:

Does someone know when they are schedualed to open?

I like the desk but it's way too much $ for me. I wish I could find a simple plain writer's desk for like under $50. I guess I'll just keep an eye out at thrift stores.

I have the coat rack, which I love. Although, I bought it when the price was $60. Hmph.

Automatic Blonde - how has the coat rack held up? I read a couple discouraging reviews on the CB2 website that seemed to imply it was poorly designed/delicate.

I had wanted that coat rack as well, it's more affordable than their other one and in my opinion looks way better, but I was wondering how it would hold up, too.

I'm so excited for their Sunset store to open. :)

I think their Visor High Dining Table is exactly what I need for my dining table/sewing table. And it will be nice to be able to see test it out in the store before buying... and if I like, I don't have to spend money on shipping!

Does anyone know what that $34.95 box is made of? It's very handsome, but pretty pricey. I hope the top is wood.

Christopher & cassie,

I've read those reviews (mine hasn't show up yet) but I didn't have those problems. It is kind of a two person job to hold all the pieces together and screw them in place. It does hold up though... at least it has so far with all our winter coats and bags being thrown on it.

I think the issues the reviewers had might have come from the fact they couldn't get it assembled without superglue.

I didn't realize they were opening one up out here, awesome! Having recently moved from Chicago I was extremely disappointed they didn't have any stores in LA.

I love CB2 as much as the next person. Every time their catalog comes, I get all excited. But how come it's never actually new stuff? They even recycle the same photos sometimes. Sad face.

Their catalogs are beautiful, but every time I've been in their stores I am SOOOO not impressed with the quality. I'm not against paying money for things - but I want them to last. I remember seeing a coffee table in the NY store that was essentially painted chipboard, which is fine until someone leaves a glass of water on it and then the whole thing is ruined. You kind of expect that from a $20 Ikea table, but not from one that costs $300.

Sunset Plaza was a poor choice for the LA outpost.
