888 Square Feet of Hillside Midcentury Living

Name: 1908 Walcott Way
Location: Echo Park, California
Size: 888 square feet

Here's a pint sized 1950's built home that resides almost smack dab in-between our own hood of Silver Lake and Echo Park. The 888 square feet midcentury home (that triple 8 is especially auspicious) is on sale, and thus the owners shared these stylish photos which we've spent a good deal daydreaming about...

Here's the listing of the handsome and well staged hillside home:

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, plus a bonus studio with an additional full bathroom. The kitchen & bathrooms have been tastefully updated w/quality finishes from Ceasarstone, Hans Grohe, Kohler, Duravit, Walker Zanger & more. The landscaping professionally designed by Big Red Sun. Many improvements & its private, serene setting make this home a treat to be in and own.

Check out the cute swing underneath the deck and a view to die for from up above. We'd argue the outdoor areas are the best aspects of the home, an extension of livable space that expands outward from the modest interior.

The home office is certainly eyecatching, but maybe a bit…overwhelming (although dramatic when shown together with the red-pink hallway in view); the shelving framing the large paned window is a favorite feature, yet again taking advantage of the views as an extension of perceived space. There's so much colour and light within, thanks to the hillside location, windows and interior colours, the small space doesn't seem so small. We hope someone out there reading AT nabs it (or that we win the lottery immediately so we can snatch it ourselves).

Not a fan of the neon green paint job in the office, but other than that, this is an amazing place. How much is it listed for?

With the exception of the property itself, I don't think any of the "midcentury" pieces are authentic.

According to Zillow, "all this" 888 sq. feet can be yours for $654k.

I'm just about to paint an old set of school lockers that color green - I think I'll like it in a small dose, but on those walls, it makes me a bit seasick! I had a room vivid green like that for a while, and it was very dramatic, but hard to live with - all the views into the room were sort of monopolized by the green.

It really is a great house, but it is way overpriced.

LOVE. Not the color of the office, but absolutely everything else.

devoette - thanks for the link. Good word is that a lot of $ per sq ft or what?

My first home was 960 sq ft and bought it for $43,775. Granted that was 1991 but still.

I think I might go faint or thank the gods that I live in an area where you can still get 1200 - 1600 sq ft for under $200K.

I love the green office the most! The rest of the house looks great too (even thought I wished for more bright colors).

The only interesting rooms are the bathrooms (ammmmazzzzing shower) and the green room (and that one blank wall with the door is pretty horrible).

Seems like they wasted the space with boring interior design.

I guess the house if for sale.... my bad for thinking that was the living design.

I spot a doggie in the last photo. Do I win the house?

I like the green room; without it the house would just be a box of knee-jerk modern trends.

I also think they went a little overboard with the fashionable xeriscaping - the gravel under the deck tips it from 'California Eco' into 'Santa Fe'. Still, it's a nice place, especially for someone who's interested in design but not TOO interested.

This is my dream-size house. Just the right size - nice and cozy. Too bad it's on the wrong coast for me!

my pad is 500 sqft. and it was 500K (okay, 497k) so this is actually not making me freak out. I don't understand people who need more than 900 sqft anyway unless you have more than 3 kids.

I'm with ridge_van_winkle though, wrong coast.

so many things to 'wow' at - the neon green room (ouch) and the price and the fact that despite the cost, people still want to live in high priced areas like that. :) (sorry, couldn't help it - i live in Nebraska and my parents bought a very nice 3,000 sq.ft. home for under 200k. It wasn't a steal either.)
