A Modern Kitchen with a Retro Color Palette

110508_jadeite1.jpgYou know that shade of seafoam green? We see it quite frequently in retro bathrooms, like at Lynn and Leif's Paris Hotel Home. So we were surprised to see it used effectively in an extremely modern kitchen, paired with blond wood floors and sleek chrome fixtures. Take a look at a few more photos after the jump and tell us what you think of this surprising color palette in an updated kitchen...

A neutral-toned speckled countertop gives this kitchen counter a touch of vintage charm.

Glasses are stored below, behind these lacquered jadeite-green cabinets.

Slim line vertical drawers pull out to reveal storage for tall containers, like cooking oil and sauces.

What do you think? Does this retro color palette work in this modern space?

Who knew Hospital Green could be hip again?! It looks nice. I think a painted/lacquered kitchen cabinet in an unexpected color is cheerful.

Love it, but we redid our entire backsplash in seafoam green glass tile so I'm a bit biased.

The walls in my college dorm were a hospital/seafoam green color and I ABHORRED them. Still do. Sorry...

Jadeite-green appears rather faddish.
Will make for an expensive remodel job when it's out of fashion in a few short years.

This looks more like an operating room than a kitchen

I think this looks fantastic! Would not choose it for myself, but only because I worry that I would tire of it before I could feasibly afford to change it.

I've used a similar shade to decorate my dining room and living room, so I obviously love it. But the commitment of built-in cupboards in this shade make me a little nervous.

For a kitchen, it just doesn't seem very "appetizing" to me--I get a stomach-churning feeling when I look at it.
There are certain colors that have been proven to not stimulate the appetite--I think this shade of green would probably be among them.

I love it.

I don't get the whole "appetizing color" thing, though. This color doesn't bother me at all. I asked my girlfriend the other day why some people use red in kitchens (which I hate!) and she said it's because it's a color that stimulates the appetite. It doesn't do that for me, instead it just makes me want to leave the room!

Just goes to show how very personal color preferences really are. I love this combination, though my own kitchen is done in blue-greys. And I also really dislike the very currently popular bright oranges and lime greens, but if it makes the people who live there happy isn't that all that matters?

this color is the keystone of my apartment; i am in love with it. it's not the overall color in any room (with the possible exception of the entryway, if my super sees the light and lets me paint!); i think it's timeless, classic and beautiful.
