Abilmo's 130 sq. ft Temporary Hotel Rooms

063008abilmo-01.jpgHow's this for an extension of small space living away from home? Abilmo temporary hotel rooms are portable accommodations that offer all the amenities of a regular hotel room, but in footprint of a large tool shed. Features include wood flooring, a pop-up desk with lamp, full size bed, heating/cooling options, and a bathroom with toilet and shower...

063008abilmo-03.jpgEach Abilmo room is only 4.40m x 2.38m x 4.68m once folded and can be delivered 18 at a time by a truck, with 25 rooms erected in just a day's time. We imagine these being used beyond just for hotel housing and as an effective option for emergency or temporary housing for the homeless. It's an impressive use of small space which we'd love to see incorporate some solar/wind power technology to improve their sustainability and ecological impact. Check out all the details here.

Yeah...we stayed in a hotel room about that size in London, except it wasn't quite as nice.

Reminds me of my dorm room at university. Except cleaner. Neat idea though.

Better than a FEMA trailer. You could almost fit a microfridge with burner tops by the door.

The videos on the company's website are very informative (esp the last one). The concept of magnetised items stuck to the walls is clever. I don't see how one could incorporate solar energy, as suggested by the author, when the units are put up so quickly and under temporary conditions. It certainly beats the container homes located in East London and the containers they referred to in Amsterdam. I'm sure the company is on a winner here and the transportation issue is certainly an extra positive, given the price hike of fuel in Europe. I wish the company great success!
