apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Apartment Therapy Blogger Search: Austin

91609ataustinblogger.jpgIf you've always wanted to join the Apartment Therapy team, have a passion for topics related to interior design and the home, reside in Austin, and are equipped with ready-to-go blogging skills…we want you! We're looking to double our Austin team by adding another blogger to our lineup in the coming weeks and are officially putting the call out today. Interested? All the details below...

This is a part-time, paid, freelance position (1 post per day with occasional multi-post assignments) and it's preferable (but not required) if your other gigs are related to the realm of design, furniture or home solutions.

What we're specifically looking for is someone enthused about helping direct others to inspirations and solutions for a happy and stylish home. So this means a great blogging voice and an equally inspiring eye for beautiful images, preferably photos taken yourself (we'll definitely give extra points for candidates who showcase their own photographic skills in their sample posts).

REQUIREMENTS

  • excellent photography skills
  • an understanding of the foundations of good design
  • a desire to help others
  • proficiency writing in a blog format
  • a reliable computer at home
  • a reliable high speed internet connection

  • a current digital camera, preferably a DSLR or prosumer point and shoot
  • available regularly via AIM or Google Talk

  • Photoshop or Photoshop Elements
  • flexible and team oriented personality

APPLICATION

Please email applications to la@apartmenttherapy.com with "AUSTIN BLOGGER" as your subject with the following information:

  • Your name and contact information

  • How long you have been reading Apartment Therapy

  • What you do full time

We require all applicants to send one of each of the following sample posts (3 total) for consideration. And be sure to check out some of the great existing Austin posts from our archives written by Adrienne Breaux for reference:

DEADLINE

Friday, September 25. Complete submissions will be confirmed and reviewed (all incomplete submissions will be disqualified from consideration).

Maybe if Austin gets another blogger, the Austin folk could move to their own subheading, and out of LA.

JeninLB: that's the hopes eventually! We're making every reasonable effort to grow sites according to both readership and resources available.

So does adding an Austin blogger mean that the LA site is going to have MORE Austin content? I'm not really too interested in reading content that isn't local, and would rather have another LA blogger added instead, but it looks like there is interest in an Austin-only section of the site.

So close, yet so far away --- if Austin gets it's own subheading can you do a Dallas blogger under that? The day I see the call for a Dallas blogger I'll be on that like white on rice.

JeninLB: it's hard to make everyone happy considering resources. We try to have our Austin writer(s) mix it up so their content is a mixture of local and general design resources. We'll continue to do the same until one day we can spin off Austin (hopefully) into its own site.

We will also be looking to add an additional Los Angeles blogger in the future, so keep your eyes out for that too.

Did you know that Austin is supposed to have the most bloggers per capita in the world? I hope they pick someone good!
