Today we officially welcome our first newest member of the ATLA team, Jenny Butler, who reports for us from Melbourne Australia. We're looking to many more excellent posts from an Australian perspective. And be sure to revisit some of her past posts under the jump.
"Hello, I’m Jenny and I’m really excited to have been chosen by AT as one of the new Australian bloggers. I think AT made a fantastic choice in adding Melbourne to its portfolio of home cities. I live with my ridiculously good looking husband just south-east of Melbourne – and when we were married recently we didn’t want to honeymoon anywhere else than Melbourne, although LA was a close second!
I work at a software company and have recently lived through the trauma of renovating my own home [although what house isn’t a work in progress] and am well across the frustrations involved in trying to make small spaces beautiful, healthy and organised without being expensive or complicated. Cheers!"

Welcome Jenny!

can we see a post on this subject?

I'm skeptical. Ridiculously attractive couples cannot be trusted. Especially in the arena of home decor.

Yay - First question for the first Aussie blogger here....we're going to Melbourne this weekend to visit my sister!! (I know we missed the big design fest last weekend!)
Where are most of the home design stores/showrooms/art areas located? Budget range from low to high end ... basically places where we could walk away with home accessories or a furniture... Specifically, are there a few streets where they are generally clustered around?
We've been to Melbourne many times so know the city quite well (at least for clothing and food) but were never really interested in shopping/window shopping for the home until now.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

crewtag.com: I'm not Australian, but I just spent a month there. I love, love, LOVE the store Industria on Gertrude St. in Fitzroy.
The price point is mid-ish. Well, some things were totally affordable, but some was pretty expensive. Still, totally worth checking out.
It's also very near two really good galleries worth checking out; Gertrude Art Space and Diane Tanzer Gallery.
Have fun in Melbourne! it's a really wonderful city.

Yay, congratulations Jenny, so excited to have an Aussie blogger (I'm from Sydney but freely admit that Melbourne kicks ass over Sydney design, food and fashion wise!)

Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for your warm welcoming!
Crewtag- Good luck with shopping on the weekend, here are my recommendations:
If youâre in Melbourne pop into
De de ce, 33 Russell Street, Melbourne
Theyâre expensive but certainly worth a look for furniture, homewares & lighting. While youâre in the area check out some of the galleries in Flinders Lane. If you havenât already been, the best place to eat in Melbourne is MoVida @ 1 Hosier Lane.

Just outside the city in Chaple Street is a goldmine for great shops. My favorite is
A day on earth, 280 Chaple St, Prahran
Check out the shop tour here">http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/at-australia/australia-storea-day-on-earthaustralia-056463">here
, itâs defiantly worth the visit for the great stock & lovely staff
~~
Chapel street bazaar, 217 chapel street,Prahran
Youâll always walk away with something you didnât know you needed!
~~
Tarlo & Graham, 60 Chapel Street, Prahran
Expensive but very interesting unique objects.
~~
Great Dane furniture, 428 Malvern Road, Prahran
Currently have a 40% off Danish furniture sale
~~
Parenthood, 641 Bridge Road, Richmond
Amazing for anything child related. I know it not what you asked for but weâve always been able to find great gifts there.
~~
Living Edge, 345 Bridge Road, Richmond
I think they still have a private collection of Charles & Ray Eames photos on display as part of last weeks design expo.
~~
Space Furniture, 629 Church Street, Richmond
Husband loves this store
~~
It Inc! 188 Brunswick St, Fitzroy
Kleen Design Store, 296 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy
Both these stores are great for homewares and have a little bit of furniture.
~~
Hope this helps- be sure to let me know of any great purchase.
