Audrey's Lovely DIY Wicker Chair Before and After

030409audreys01.jpgAudrey wrote in to show us her DIY before and after project transforming an old wicker chair that has seen better days into some outdoor seating that has plenty of entertaining days ahead of it:

I bought this antique wicker chair from the 1920s off Craigslist. It has springs. They certainly don't make wicker chairs with springs anymore. The cushion had springs too, but I replaced the entire cushion with nufoam.

030409audreys03.jpg
030409audreys02.jpgIt had been painted at least once and the cushion recovered 2 or 3 times over the years. I stripped it down and started at the beginning.

The swing and wicker chair combo is mighty inviting and it looks like a perfect spot for spring time entertaing from what we see. Check out Audrey's before and after post on her own blog here.

well I can see how the after works with what you were trying to accomplish so I say well done. But I did like the chair before, maybe with a new cushion something romantic about that green.

The black and white looks great and updated . . . I usually hate wicker but this looks very fresh to me. Nice job!

That looks very professional, and the fabric choice is excellent.

I like the little duck toy, too. Dog toy, or whimsy?

You managed to make wicker look modern. It's a great look, and the two pieces of porch furniture look wonderful together.

It looks beautiful, though I liked the dark teal "before" color, too.

Great job !!! Did you make those cushions yourself? The pipeing job is great. Please let me know how you did it. I would love to try something like that myself. BTW -- love the black !!!

Agreed about the before. It is more suited for colour, but the after looks nice. Very safe choice with the b/w.

I, too, dig the original turquoisey-peacock green color, but the black plus the fabric looks terrific -- especially with the piping. What a great job, and a fantastic find! I've never seen wicker in such a squared-off, almost modern style. And I'm from the south, so I've seen a LOT of wicker...

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the compliments! I painted the wicker with a spray primer and a couple coats of indoor/outdoor high gloss spray paint to insure even coverage. I could tell that it was painted before with a brush and the it didn't cover all that well.
I bought the outdoor fabric from www.outdoorfabrics.com. I made the cushions and the box spring cover using tips from he Pillow Book.

Love the after! It works so well with the swing. I love anything black and white, and this really updated wicker! Nicely done.
