Suzanne O'Connor of BargainsLA.com was kind enough to share the news about the notable delivery that arrived at a Los Angeles discounter just recently: Hotel Surplus specializes in liquidation of furnishing, appliances and fixtures from luxury hotels undergoing renovations or redecorating projects.

BargainsLA.com's Hot Deal of the Week notes recent arrivals at Hotel Surplus include Phillipe Stark chairs in a mint green or cream colored for $129.95 (Retail is $250 and up), apartment sized refrigerators for $129.95, and 4 burner gas stove units for $89.95. This spot is just around the corner from where I work, so I'll be checking this out at lunch myself, hopefully returning with some notable bargains that bring some of those luxe comforts from the hotel into my home!

My curiosity has lured me into Hotel Surplus numerous times and I have never seen anything that would be housed in a "luxury boutique hotel." I'm sure their stock is constantly changing. However, upon my visits I mostly saw 80s and early 90s hotel/motel decor and furniture, much of which was heavily used. There were a few nicer pieces, but they were very traditional and rather pricey considering they were old and who knows how many people sat on or did who knows what on them. In fact, I thought almost everything was overpriced. The employees were, however, extremely nice and helpful and will you know what is in their storage/loading area if you ask. I think this store is a great concept, but I doubt if I will be tempted to drive into the heart of Van Nuys again.
