Buying Furniture After the Show

atla0208-stagesales.jpgMy sister just IM'ed me excitedly about a bargain furniture purchase of a unique nature. Apparently, a local stage play is just about to finish its run, and upon closing, they're selling all the set furniture on discount. So instead of paying $1500 new, she's getting a couch for $900 barely used (interestingly, by chance, it's in the very same line I used for an Adorn feature). Not bad at all. Has anyone else gone this route for home furnishings?

A friend of mine was working for a television studio. When the tv show ended she was able to purchase a bunch of the props/furniture for very cheap. She had some good finds. Of course tv shows don't end all the time.

In New York, Props For Today on West 34th Street (between 8 and 9th Ave) is a huge space with lots of random furniture and accessories from movie, tv, and theatre sets. Some pieces need a little love, some are in great condition. They used to be right on the street, but now you have to go upstairs. I've never actually purchased anything there, but I like looking.
There must be other such places in both NY and LA.

Not quite the same but someone in our extended family works for a home builder. They were refurnishing one of their model homes and no longer needed a crib that had been in one of the BRs. We needed a crib so we got one for free.
