apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Color Combo: Beige, Vanilla, and yes, Chocolate

091508_serenebedroom.jpgAfter a weekend of entertaining and staying out way past our bedtime, we'd like nothing more than to take today off, collapse in bed, and maybe watch the entire second season of Dexter. Needless to say, if our bedroom looked like this one by S. Russell Groves, we wouldn't even be writing this. Instead, we'd be languishing on the Case Study bed and mussing up the perfectly folded throw blanket, reveling in this all-neutral goodness that reminds us of simple treats...like a chocolate and vanilla soft serve swirl in a sugar cone. What do you think: too bland for you or just sweet enough?

I'm a firm believer that your bedroom shouldn't bee too visually exciting. Not saying it needs to be empty and void of interest, but it should be soothing and comforting with nothing too distracting. I love this bedroom and wish I had one as nice as it.

It's lovely and would be so easy to jazz up with a colorful throw and some pillows. I like that sort of flexibility and I would love to have this room in my house!

Bedrooms should be tranquil. This one is near perfect. My bedroom has a similar color story with small spots of color in the pillows and one of my wall hangings. And a plant...of course.

it's white and beige. it's a soulless tomb.

To me it just looks cold, literally. It looks like there is nothing on that bed but sheets and a throw. Maybe for the hottest nights of July and August, but for Fall, it just gives me the shivers.

On topic, I've never really understood the whole point of leaving out visually stimulating elements of the bedroom. At night I turn off the lights! In the dark, trying to get to sleep, what's the difference between a brightly colored room and a beige one?

Of course, I've always either had roommates or lived in a studio, so when I have a bedroom, it's my space and I tend to experiment with it. If I had a whole one-bedroom apartment to myself, I might tend to experiment more with the living room and let the bedroom be more neutral.

I've actually started incorporating this theme into my bedroom this weekend. I was kind of skeptical at first, but it's actually coming together nicely. I think that varying the textures/patterns is what can make the difference between these colors being blah or comforting.

This is nice, but blah - more Boutique Hotel than Home...

...I guess I just need lots of color.

I find that simple-styled bedrooms look terrible about five minutes after you come in the door. Everyday clutter like shoes on the floor, clothes on the chair, magazines on the bed, and a soft drink on the bedside table make it look messy.

If it were me, I'd paint the wall behind the headboard the same chocolate as the chair, or maybe a shade lighter. I painted our bedroom entirely in a chocolatey mousse-ish color and it really made it cozy and warm. Ours is a big roo though, so it needed bringing in. The ceiling in there is about 11 feet, too.

Other than that - I like it. Especially the pillows.

I really like this scheme in this pic, however this colour scheme along with a mocha colour seems to be the standard for display homes in Perth, Western Australia, it gets tired pretty quick.
I would love to spice it up by introducing teal, deep red or even orange!
