We must all have small home offices on the brain these days. My own desire to move from the dining room table to some kind of dedicated workspace that doesn't need to get packed up (like the one I used to have) had me lusting over little nooks in the kitchen to fit a desk, a couple of folders, maybe a bulletin board and a computer. A couple of friends of mine have tiny apartments with kitchens that can accommodate a little table for 2. But in most cases they forgo the eating nook in favor of a workspace, eating in the living room on the coffee table instead:
Desks in the Kitchen
Intrigued I looked up some images to see what regular folks have been putting together and I love these multi-tasking stations right in the heart of the home:
Megan and Sarah's Orange Nook is actually quite spacious and I love the use of thrift store furniture, bright colors and textures from books and plants.
This desk from flickr user Laura Hiartrich is mid century utilitarian style with an eames chair and simple lines. It's a small desk just at the end of the counter, out of the way but not shoved into obscurity. I wonder how often the desk in the kitchen ends up getting everyone's stuff all over it.
This is the ultimate desk in the kitchen. Built In, drool. With ample shelving, bulletin board backsplash and out of the way enough to not be in the cook's way. From moobug.
If given the chance would you use the kitchen eating nook for work? Do you already? At the least I'm picturing a little parsons desk or something like this to stick into a tiny corner (to call my own). Even a tiny corner would do.

The eating nook in my apartment isn't really big enough for a table and since I live alone, I wouldn't end up using it all that much anyway, so I've turned the space into my home office. They sliding keyboard shelf on my desk has turned into a handy eating surface in lieu of a table. :)

We had our living room separated into a work space and a sitting space, then opted to get rid of the work space and make it a dining space that we could also do work at. Then I got really sick of that and moved the work space into an unused nook in our bedroom. Everything is almost perfect. I would still rather have a small room dedicated to a home office. Sigh.

I have a built in desk in my new kitchen and I loves it. I love being able to pull up a recipe and just cross over to the fridge and get the ingredients. Super handy.

grrliz-- i love it, so chic and modern, can't believe that was an eating nook!
cassie--I've been thinking about using the bedroom too since it's the most private during the day and with kids, etc...but I've always been warned against having a workspace in the bedroom, have you had any issues?
Eliza--I'm totally jealous especially since I've been dreaming all day about making a bundt cake.
