Dwell on Design 2009: LA Times Reclaimed Design Contest

One of the most vibrant and busy sections at this year's Dwell on Design exhibition was in a front booth co-hosted by Dwell on Design and the Los Angeles Timess, showcasing the entries for Los Angeles Times Reclaimed Design Contest. Each designer was asked to create a section only using materials from the Los Angeles Times' classifieds section. To be honest, we're pleasantly surprised at the quality of the decorative and furnishings created...we thought everyone had moved over to Craigslist, but we're obviously mistaken from the looks of these eyecatching creations...

We're still waiting to hear who won the $1000 prize for best entry, but our vote is for the Union Jack arm chair. And here's a video of the corner of Attic of Studio City's, whose medical themed corner brought many smiles thanks to the feet of their table.

The heads in that last picture are wonderful. The chairs? Not so much.

I can't help but think that someone is wondering where their corner crosswalk sign has disappeared to, and hope no one gets run over as a result. Also, the design on the back of the Union Jack chair makes me think of underpants. :P
