We don't know if it's just the sign of the times or if people were just getting the itch to change their scenery, but we've had quite a few friends move to new places in the last few weeks. The one thing we're undoubtedly asked is where to find affordable rentals with character (aka normally expensive). We've found an interesting site that might help those looking for quick and affordable housing throughout the states...

The Cheap Apartments blog purports to provide leads "for inexpensive rents in expensive places." Although we haven't looked too deeply or seriously (yet), since we don't plan to move, we did find it fun to poke around and just compare how much money gets you how much living space and amenities in different cities. So while a bedroom in Glendale California is a "reasonable" $1385, you could afford two 1-bedroom units in Denver Colorado for the same amount. The whole idea of "cheap" is very relative...
This is a good site to keep on hand while I toy with the idea of moving into my own place. :)
Although it's sad to see that most place on the westside of LA aren't below $1200, unless it's a 250sq.ft. efficiency studio.
