We're pretty sure these photos have made the rounds, but just in case this is your first time seeing 'em, take a look and then make a guess as to which celebrity calls this place home. "After I finally figured out how to behave, and how to dress, I wanted to get the next thing--my apartment--right," so says the owner of this home. Well, quite frankly, we're just impressed this guy has a Ryan McGinness piece hanging over his sofa. More photos after the jump...

OK, so the first few photos look a bit generic--perhaps even a bit reminiscent of last year's West Elm catalogue, especially with the orange and grey color combinations. This next photo is a dead give away:

Yes, it's John Mayer's newly decorated home (thanks to Armani/Casa's design team). Putting aside any opinions you have of the guy--we just endured an hour-long debate in the office--what do you think of his bachelor pad? To be honest, we're a bit disappointed--we were sort of hoping it would have a lot more personality and a lot less polish, perhaps something similar to the homes featured on The Selby. What say you?

Blah.

John Mayer is generic, so it doesn't surprise me that his home reflects that. He's talented, but he doesn't seem to know how to use his talent. I don't think his music is creative in the least.

For some reason. Right off the bat when i saw the first picture before I clicked on read more, I just knew it was him. I don't even know that much about him. It just sorta looks like him.

If you could get arrested for too much beige, then John Mayer('s decorator) would be in a holding cell right now.
Then again, his music is beige too, so maybe this fits perfectly.

John Boring Mayer
view leadingedge's profile
I'd blame the Armani/Casa designers. Or the photographers. This picture of the house he is writing his next album is a little more to my liking. http://www.johnmayer.com/battlestudies/admin/uploads/images/75017blog2.26.1.jpg

eh. No passion.
Saw a performance recently & it was like he didn't give a **** for the audience, & wasn't singing to them.

Boring art, boring house, boring musician. I'm sorry. I can't believe someone PAID for that "design." Most of the posters on AT could have done a better job!
view sally305's profile
I'll give him a break since it was newly redecorated. It looks like this is his first grown-up house and that he let someone else do the thinking for him. I bet he had pieces with personality before Armani/Casa removed them for him. If it still looks like this in 5 years, when he's had some time to think for himself, then I'll jump on the 'blah' bandwagon.

Why.... Why do you people have a problem with beige.... Do you really need to have a place like if Betsey Johnson threw up all over it to think that is has "individuality"?
It looks nice, relaxing, clean and peaceful. I like a place that when I walk in I feel I strip all the sh*t I get from the street during the day...
view manu_pty's profile
If you read the article, you sense that this is a person who likes to try on personalities.
Armani's PR team has done an excellent job of indoctrinating this young man into believing Armani = class.

John Mayer is a tool. He goes out with women that he think will get him face time in celebrity tabloids and blogs. I don't like him, his music is boring soccer mom music and I don't like his apartment either.
view PixP's profile
It's masculine and tasteful----doesn't mean it's necessarily your taste. Plus he's probably barely there with touring and whatnot---leave the poor guy alone.
view zaky's profile
i doubt he ever really "lives" here...
view lauren81's profile
@jessroo- I thought exactly the same thing. Hysterical.
view sammybaby's profile
PixP: I think I can speak for all soccer moms everywhere and say I find your generalization insulting! :)
view sally305's profile
John Mayer's apartment is as boring as he is. Is there anything grosser than watching him sing, twitching around like he's having bathroom troubles? He's a total D.B. Elle D. is a downslide.
view becky's profile
I actually groaned out loud when I saw the Warhol print. Where's the character? Nothing unique at all in that apartment.

I concur with the general opinion here: tasteful, but dull.

Uhh... I hate it when "stylists" do stuff like that. I cringe for the stratocaster in the first picture. No guitar should be propped up with the load pressing against its neck. Eek.
Oh, I have all mine hanging in my pretty pink closet:

@manu_pty: No, beige is not always boring, but THIS beige most certainly is. The blog writer mentioned this looks like a West Elm catalog, but I would argue that's an insult to West Elm's stylist. They can do neutrals and beige MUCH better than this, mostly because they incorporate some texture into their neutral palettes. If you don't have color, you're going to need texture to keep it visually rich and interesting. No Color No Texture = peaceful, but boooooooooring

Who is John Mayor - and why does he live in a beige hotel suite?
view bepsf's profile
Indeed, tasteful, yes, but dull, dull, dull, hell, most of the colors are somber and dull.
Now don't get me wrong, beige and other neutrals are fine, but in small doses, the living room looks blah for it has too much of the SAME colors going on, with only the one red print above the sofa to give it some life and it barely does. The print's fine, but it needs others to help out though.
Having lived with a blah beige/black/palest of pale blue 80's era cheap sectional for several years, no more of that kind of crap in MY house. :-)
I'm sure I've heard his music via my favorite radio station in the mornings but eh, whatever.
view ciddyguy's profile
I actually looked through the article this morning in the magazine. And it really does look like a hotel. There are a couple of interesting pieces--the light fixture over the dining table, the artwork (there's a Jimi Hendrix sketch that they're not showing in these pictures)--some of that. But yeah, I was rather umimpressed.

The top photo looks likes the waiting room in a senior citizens center. The furniture looks cheap and very blah, the bed is ok. The decor reminds me of someone's first apartment out of college. Not impressed.
view chairfetish1's profile
Pleasant enough but devoid of personality.
view spanky's profile
I totally guessed John Mayer! The decor sort of reminded me of his album covers......
view goodness is golden's profile
The living room could be better if they hadn't gone for almost perfect symmetry (it would then look less like a waiting room). I believe you could take the elements of the living room and rearrange them so that it doesn't look so generic and cheap (last I checked, Armani Casa was not cheap and I'm appalled that they could make it look as such).
view chairfetish1's profile
I can't believe Elle Decor published this space . . . it's so beneath their standards.
view ChrisToronto's profile
um maybe I'm just crazy but I'm guessing he spends close to zero time there and so he probably doesn't care a whole bunch what it looks like (just thinking of most of the straight males I know who could care less about interior design). Also, um John Mayer is a fabulous musician (i.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygfvt0UBveY ) and moreover the John Mayer Trio is just awesome. Lastly, not that this saves the interior, but there are a few jazz throwbacks in the art, which are obviously influences on his musical style, so we can give props there...

Maybe there will be some job openings at Casa Armani after this published work. It reminds be of a slightly nicer Oakwood Corporate Apartments.

Don't give me a reason not to hate Mayer. I actually like the design of all the spaces. It looks like a regular person's house. I don't see anything wrong with that. Maybe he spent a million bucks and I just don't know it but this could be anyone's house. Does that warrant being in Elle Decor? No. But I like that this guy who really seems like an ego maniac has a home that is so Joe Schmoe.
view graciela's profile
While I don't much care for his music, I think Crabb hit it right--he's never there. And the photos were done right after the decorating team left, so who knows if he's ever actually moved in.
view Palmetto's profile
Man, you people will take any chance you can get to bash a person YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW. Sad, sad individuals.
He's a GUY. A single, successful musician... do you seriously think he has any interest at all in interior design??? He didn't want to live in a space that looked like a college dorm room anymore, so he hired designers. This is what he got. This is what Armani/Casa does. I'm sure if he worked with an independent designer (or at least one who isn't tied to a corporate brand), it would have looked completely different.

view Cashew's profile
Sparkle, you do realize that he gave permission for his home to be photographed, knowing it would be featured in a magazine with DECOR in the title? And that that in turn would provoke reactions about the decor of his home?
We all make judgments about people we don't know who are in the public eye. I've never met John Mayer, Sarah Palin, the people with eight or eighteen kids, or any of numerous other public figures. But they have willingly put themselves up for public scrutiny--it's part of their job and part of the system that rewards them. And John Mayer, with his preference for high-profile girlfriends, is most certainly aware of that fact.

@puck:
I know, isn't that awful? My boyfriend once leaned his twelve string acoustic guitar against the sofa like that and it ended up tipping forward, breaking off the neck. It was horrifying.

His comments for the article also make him sound like an idiot. All about how much he's grown up in the last one year.

gosh, i guessed john mayer too from the first photo too! how did we do that, Cashew and jessroo? I only know the gossip surrounding him, not his music-- and that's probably because I don't watch tv, or listen to the radio that often. It's very blah, but I can see it was for a magazine and overly designed. I'm sure if we check in in a few months, he may have switched out a lot more of the blockier pieces for funkier stuff-- ya know, when he gets time to actually live in the space.

yeah... all the musicians and tech people I know would store their gear (the large black case with spray painted numbers) in their bedroom.
Do you have any idea how much gear STINKS by end of tour? And what sucessful musician needs a gear case to "prove" their standing.
I'd think his bank book would prove his "success."
Love or hate the music, this decor is cold, and trying a tad too hard, and abusing instruments. Get a display stand.
Love or hate the man's work, the decor is cold and uninspiring. Perfect for a magazine, but not real life.
Although I really like the dining room lamp.
