All morning, we've been flipping through archives of celebrity homes, hoping to find one that wasn't too "styled" and had some interesting decor ideas. After awhile, all the houses we looked at started resembling expensive showrooms, lacking that important spark of personality that Rebecca talked about yesterday. So when we finally got to this celebrity's home, we were pleasantly surprised: As staged as the photos looked for the Architectural Digest feature, there's definitely personality all over this home. Take a look at some more photos after the jump and take a guess as to which celebrity lives in this 1927 Spanish Revival Colonial home in Bel Air? We'll give you some hints, quotes from one of our favorite movies which she stars in, along the way...

"There's an old joke. Uh, two elderly women are at a Catskills mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know, and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life. Full of loneliness and misery and suffering and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly."
One thing we noticed throughout her home: oversized planters with huge, unruly-looking plants. These bigger-than-life arrangements make bold statements--as well as a nice alternative to, say, a more predictable ficus tree standing in the corner.

"You know, even as a kid, I always went for the wrong women. I think that's my problem. When my mother took me to see Snow White, everyone fell in love with Snow White. I immediately fell for the Wicked Queen."
This actress/director/producer is very fond of Monterey style furniture: the entryway and the living room all have handpainted Monterey sofas and chairs, adding a personal, crafty touch to this warm living room. The subtle touches of olive green from the vases and urns scattered throughout the room give just the right amount of balance to the predominantly warm-toned color scheme.

"I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member."
The office has one show stopping piece: an old factory table on wheels. Behind it, a large bulletin board stretches to hold all the visual inspirations needed for this artist.

"A relationship, I think, is like a shark. You know? It has to constantly move forward or it dies. And I think what we got on our hands is a dead shark."
A quote from Robert Frost is painted over the kitchen's alcove ("Home is a place where when you knock on the door, they have to let you in"), and the counter is covered in vintage handpainted California tile. Also vintage: The 1950s chrome O'Keefe & Merrit range.

"That was the most fun I've ever had without laughing."
This could be the first time we've ever seen brightly colored planting pots arranged on either side of the bed as decoration...and we're kind of loving this idea. Perfect for stashing magazines, slippers, even as an ornamental trash can, these pots bring the essence of the outdoors in. Also love the black bedding as it anchors the spots of vibrant color and draws attention to the detailed craftsmanship of the wooden bedframe.
Figured out who the celebrity is yet? It's Diane Keaton! The quotes are from one of our all-time favorite movies, Woody Allen's Annie Hall.

Any one know how I can create a saying or phrase on my walls like in this picture? Thanks. ~katie

Hi Katiejane, you can do it with wall decals. Etsy.com has lots of people who sell them and could easily make a custom decal for you.

what a pretty home!
Katiejane - I think it would just take some paint and a set of stencils.

Wall Words? But think long and hard about this.
Keaton's had about 4 or 5 Spanish Colonials that she's restored and sold.

Pretty sure the celeb is now selling this house (just reduced to $11.995M!). Won't give it away, but she has done a lot for LA conservation, too.
katiejane, try this: http://www.wallwords.com/

just as an fyi in the quote above the door that is quoted in the article it should be "knock" instead of "know"
this home does look very fun!!

Ooo, I hadn't looked at pictures yet, but I knew it had to be her for the same reason Arroyo did.
I love her home, it's so much fun!

Apparently, she is known as a flipper. Buys a house, renovates, decorates, lives there for a while, then sells and moves on.

Hmm, I always heard the quote from my mother as "Home is the place that when you have to go there, they have to take you in." No idea which is the correct Frost version (hopefully hers, since she went to the trouble of painting it on the wall) but I like my family's version better!

Ha, i thought itd be Susan Sarandon! Close....

I thought it would be Sandra Bullock who I surmize to me a bit of a maverick and kind of anti-Hollywood. Her husband, Jessie James, ROCKS! I could see the two of them chilling in this kind of abode -- honoring the original Spanish roots/heritage but adding their own twist and interpretation. As it turns out, it's Diane Keaton and I guess I'm a bit surprised. Her own personal aesthetic is so minimalist and monotone that I would anticipate a similar aesthetic in her home. I am pleased to see that she has a distinct point of view that is all her own. Now that I think about it, that seems to resonate with her ideals, so... not such a surprise. Thanks for posting the pics. That was cool.

Unfortunate that the choice of film quotes (in this post) mostly illustrates Woody Allen's neuroses.

I think she just sold this house...

RE: Frost quote: It's from "The Death of the Hired Hand" and the accurate quote is "Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in." And in the first movie quote, Woody Allen was paraphrasing Thomas Hobbes:"The life of man is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short."

I wanted to play the guessing game too but made the mistake of hovering on the first pic and the name '...keatonKitchen...' popped up, so it was over before it started ;) Very cool house though!!

Diane Keaton also has a book called 'California Romantica' that features Spanish Colonial and Mission-style homes in Southern California.
There is more about the book on her publishers web site.

Every one of those shots is professionally styled and looked like a catalog shot. Why the need to put down my catalog look. For some of us, neat, stylish, organized, and clean IS our personality. Just because I keep everything in it's place doesn't mean I don't have personality. I'm hurt!

"Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in." is indeed the correct quote
But why you'd want it painted on the wall in your home is a mystery - its not very friendly
"when you have to go there" i.e. when you're in trouble and have nowhere else to go
"they have to take you in" i.e. they don't really welcome you or want you there but let you in out of obligation
Its like the least friendly saying to paint on a wall

she's got some beautiful paintings (landscapes), but none of them are shown in these photos - maybe they're in the full story in AD

Picky, picky, picky! For goodness sakes, folks! Lighten up and enjoy it. These are feel-good pix. The vibrant colors make me smile. Isn't that what this kind of art should do?

Oh Aligal, haven't you noticed that even the nicest places on the internet slowly dissolve into nitpicking, slicing, dicing and most important of all: clever mean words - when - as the world gets a little too unkind and a little too harsh, it seems like we should all rise to our best selves and bring them forth when we come together -- even in anonymity. Especially in anonymity? Wouldn't that be the true test of character and reflection of a community, which inevitably is what we become in these places?
Your comment means much to me, and that is not to diminish the kind words of others here. I just grow so weary of the seeming 'oh well / expectation - acceptance' of a harsh back and forth?
Violetsrose? I wonder if that isn't the slightly twisted sense of humor of DK (my best guess), or perhaps a glimpse into something more sad: I have not an iota of information as to her background, but I can tell you that I, for one, agree that it seems a profoundly off thing to paint on show in one's home.
However, I certainly know that far too many families do not hold to the ties of love you seem to speak of. Knowing this as deeply as I do is perhaps why I am such a believer of my words in the first paragraph - how much more lovely our days would be if we not only acted generous and kind here (sans downright nullification of critique, I'm not suggesting a pendulum swing in another direction) but also smiled at people on the street, and were more kind in the grocery, etc? I wonder if there are readers here who do live in genuinely friendly places that wonder what the heck this urban commenter is so raw from!
Well, thanks for letting me spout off and ultimately I am glad that DK isn't running around buying up properties to raze them or do more harm. Though she may be snapping them up and due to her prestige, pricing them far above the wallets of many. Hm.

I love the tiles and Fiestaware in the kitchen as I've collected Fiestaware since I was a kid.
Question: how much of the credit for the interior design goes to the interior designer (Stephen Shadley in this case) or to the client (Diane Keaton)? I always wonder how much of the 'personality' belongs to the designer who exposes the client to ideas and choices. That being said, this collaboration worked for me!!!
