This Queen Anne/Eastlake style home was built in 1887 (there's a bit of mystery as to who the original owner was, although initials are engraved on the shields above the windows), and was once used as a boarding house in the 50s. After that, it was passed on to a member of the Hale family who employed two college students to take care of the place. Finally, in 1970, the house was sold to the city for...a dollar.

The Heritage Square Museum restored this house to its former glory: all the original colors were reproduced using chips found on the house during the restoration. You can't take any interior pictures of it (there goes that house tour idea...), but most of the fixtures and details inside are original. Visiting the house is a bit pricey at $10 a pop, but it's well worth the history lesson.
