apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Inside Madera Design House

Madera Design House is hard to describe, but easily appreciated: a fully decorated and whimsical world that plays the role of art space/gallery, kitchen, stage and even bourdoir, available for rental for private parties and other social events. The inspirational and theatrical decorated spaces strongly resemble abandoned sets from a Tim Burton directed film, with bold colours and outdoor-brought-indoor elements that make you wonder if you've fallen down the rabbit hole...

Founder and creative director, Leila Fakouri, created the 3,600 sq. ft. Downtown LA space to be anything they need it to be, and the space's dreamland Technicolor decor is an extension of her personal motto of "living IN art", put altogether using her own original wallpaper designs, a gallery of personal artwork and those created by friends, and her talented eye for partnering vintage with fantasy elements. It's not often a venue's decor may trump the event and/or guests themselves, but we wouldn't mind attending an event in such an inspiring space one day ourselves.

Love the colors - who wants white walls anyway!!! I love the brushed look of the paint as well... But I never ever want to have to clean under those kitchen cabinets.

Stunning.

The colours are beautiful and the plants and trees make the place look enchanting.

I read this post right after the IKEA catalogue one and it's quite a shocking transition, like exiting the highway from a traffic jam and landing in a meadow (yes I should be working instead). This is so beautiful. Now waiting for a comment telling these people to remove the greenery from the top of their kitchen cabinets :)

In case anyone's interested, the collection of artwork is composed solely of work by Louise of Art and Ghosts. http://artandghosts.typepad.com/my_weblog/

I love her dreamy, ethereal work, and was very pleased to receive one of her prints for a birthday present last year!

Wow. I have an intense hatred for every room. How is that even possible?

Fantastic (in all senses of the word). I wish I could get a better look at those trees...

This is such a unique space! I agree, I would love to attend an event in that space, if for nothing else than to use that phone booth!!

And I love the wall color in that last photo!

picture #2 is blue and green working at its best..love this space even though the furniture is oddly arranged that can be adjusted.

This is a room I could live in.
