Inspiration Next Door: Neighbor's Cacti Garden

062408cactigard01.jpgInspiration can come from anywhere...sometimes literally next door. Our neighbor Bill has spent years tending to a marvelous cactus garden on a south facing irregularly shaped plot of land which he's transformed into a xeriscaped shangri-la. Because it's located high above the sidewalk, most everyone doesn't even notice it's there. But take a step upward and you're treated to a blooming garden of flowering succulents and cactus that has inspired us to follow his footsteps in our front yard section...

062408cactigard05.jpgOur neighbor has always been supportive and helpful when discussing gardening, going as far to offer some cuttings from his own garden so we can transplant some of that garden goodness to our once bleak front yard of our apartment. We hope in a few years we too can proudly showcase something so impressive (and water conscious) as his garden. For now, we just walk around the corner and we're reminded that a little patience and a lot of hard work can result in something so beautiful, even when you're "just renting".
