Inspiration: Plant Watering Umbrella Stand

112408umbrellastand01.jpg It doesn't rain nearly as often as it seemingly should here in Los Angeles. Though, to be clear, LA categorically is not a desert, but actually is a Mediterranean (or "dry summer subtropical climate") region. That being said it does appear a big storm is looming upon us tonight. Only in Los Angeles is precipitation met with such anticipation, dread and welcome all wrapped in one, but it reminded us to pull out the umbrella so our spray-on tans don't run (we jest!).

On a related note, a few days back we came upon this Mini advertisement online and filed it away as a DIY inspiration for an umbrella stand. We realized there's an actual product that replicates or more likely preceded/inspired the auto advertisement...

Jerome Spriet's Take Care Umbrella Stand is made of beechwood and steel, and looks like something we could fashion from some spare parts from our local IKEA showroom (and we mean that in a "that's so brilliantly simple" way). Just be sure to weather seal the wood, not use MDF or metal that rusts!

That's very cool, assuming the poor plant gets any sunlight next to the front door.
