apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Is this LA's Most Expensive Apartment?

We're all about affordable living here at AT, but that doesn't mean we don't take notice when all the news is abuzz about $195 million dollar flats over on the other side of the pond (shown top photo). That had us wondering where the most expensive apartment in Los Angeles might be...and how much it was going for.

So according to Forbes, this Santa Monica ocean front property above might have been the priciest apartment unit on the market (it was recently sold). We've passed by quite a few times on PCH and noted it would be quite a view from the two story, 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath ocean front dwelling. And at $8.2 million, compared to that One Hyde Park penthouse, this 4,200 sq ft. apartment seems fairly reasonable. And you know they'll throw in better weather free with purchase.

But it looks like just around the corner are some $30 million dollar ultra-luxury Century tower units designed by Parisian architect Jean Nouvel coming to market. In the meantime, check out what the bargain option could have gotten you by staying in LA:

The upper floor has 12' ceilings which creates the volume of a most exquisite and expensive first class property. Floor to ceiling windows, stainless steel columns and guest bathroom. Full bar with sink, subzero refrigerator, bar seating and wine glass cabinets. Living room has a large built-in TV, stereo system throughout both levels, large magnificent kitchen with subzero refrigerator and freezer, two ovens, microwave, grill, pantry, breakfast room, dining room area, combo office/den/third bedroom with a full bath all finished in a beautiful modern Contemporary style.

The home has four independent HVAC air conditioning/heating units. Two are on the upper level and two on the lower level. There is also a security system. There is a patio on the South side of the home, off the kitchen for easy outdoor dining. The lower floor has a large guest bedroom with full bath, large laundry room with sink and separate washer/dryer and very large master suite which includes two huge his and her closets, large jacuzzi tub, shower with steam unit, bidet. Easy access to beach. 3 parking spaces, facilities include pool, Jacuzzi, BBQ area, gym, security.

the moniker, with money comes taste, has never been disproved more.

It might be worth that much this week - doubtful that it will be worth that 10 years from now when the ocean is lapping at the front door...

For that kind of money, I want a view of BOTH the ocean and the City/Santa Monica.

I live a short distance from that building and although it sure is purdy, I'll take my rent-controlled $1300 a month instead.

are there two huge kitchens in this place? definitely jealous of that- but do all rich people decorate with green apples? and please tell me THEY cook a lot in those gorgeous kitchens- otherwise what a true waste.

I wouldn't pay a penny more than $82 million. Any more than that is just vulgar.

For $195 million, that apartment better be able to teleport to receptor sites on several continents, and serve as a rocket-fueled temporary space station in the event of war or cataclysmic disaster...
