Jonathan Adler says: We Heart Peru!

083007_adler.jpgLiving in LA, we have often heard (or read) stories about how our celebrities are rude to their fans. And we get it: they are celebrities, they are followed by paparazzi, and being rude to their fans is something that we find to be dumb (don't bite the hand that feeds you, Avril!) So it's heartwarming to find that our own 'celebrities' in the design world aren't as bad as, say, the movie starlets or musician types. Case and point: Jonathan Adler will be donating 10% of all the proceeds from his stores to the Peruvian earthquake relief.

Adler put up a statement on his site recognizing his reliance on the "magic and skill of Peruvian craftsmen," and while acknowleding that some damage hit his own workshops, the greater damage affected other areas of Peru. And while Jonathan Adler's wares might be out of your price range, you can always donate to charities that are providing relief to Peru, such as Care.org and The American Red Cross.

Jonathan is an all-around "right-on" guy with solid ethics, and he's very proud that his pottery is made in Peru by local craftspeople, for good pay and in good working conditions (which is why, while it's not exactly exorbitant, it's also not cheap).

It's nice to be able to shop in a store with great stuff with the assurance that it wasn't made by some sleaze using child labor and lead paint in some corrupt rural province of China.
