Keep It Light: Using Color in A Small Space

101308_diningroom.jpgSay you've got a kitchen/dining room combination in your apartment, and you want to incorporate color without overwhelming the small space. Based on Adrienne's survey on Bright Pops of Colors last week, this solution featured in House to Home starts with a neutral base, like these bright white and blonde wood tones layered underneath bright hues of blue, pink, and green...

Some tips on achieve this look:
• Even if your floor isn't white, having the walls and trim white will help keep the room looking light and airy. Need extra storage space? Ikea's Akurum line can be mounted on the wall waist-level and used as a sideboard.

• Keep light fixtures neutral: We love the airiness of the these clear glass domes from Baileys Home & Garden, Ikea's 365+ Brasa Pendant Lamp, or Pottery Barn's Rustic Glass Pendant.

Absolutely beautiful. The combination of whites, neutral timbers and bright colours is so clean and fresh. And let's not forget the cupcakes! High tea has never looked so delicious.

Any ideas on where the table and benches are from?

Thanks!

Lovely! I've always liked that kind of look. It started out with this room in Emily Chalmers' book Flea Market Style... this mostly white bedroom with an afghan in a million colors. I bought the book and started copying the afghan...

This is kind of the color palette I'm exploring now. I love the airyness of white, especially in my small dark space.
