Lance Armstrong's 448 Acre Texan Ranch
Celebrities...They're NOT Like Us

We're heading out to Texas in the near future, hopefully making our way down over to Austin (we'll be visiting Emily's family in San Antonio) for some good ole BBQ if we get our way. Maybe we can finagle a house tour from one of our favourite sports heroes, Lance Armstrong, whose impressive abode just west of Austin in Dripping Springs (the very same one Grace had you all guessing about when Architectural Digest did a feature about the Armstrong ranch), complete with a nearby swimming hole called Deadman's Hole (Armstrong got into a bit of trouble over muddying up waters after building a dam), was recently profiled by AOL Real Estate after being put up for sale for a whopping $12 million. Check out what $12 big ones gets you below...

Here's the actual real estate page listing (just in case you're one of our more wealthy readers), which is a pretty darn humble considering the price of the estate. Information is listed as such:

Main House

  • 4241 Sq Ft (hcad)
  • Five Bedrooms
  • Five Full Bathrooms
  • Two Living Areas

Guest House

  • One Bedroom
  • One Bathroom

  • 447.8 acres (hcad)
  • Approx. 1886 ft of frontage on the Pedernales River (per survey)
  • Ownership in Dead Man's Hole
  • Built by David Dalgleish in 2003
  • Designed by Ryan Street and Associates
  • 7 miles of mountain bike trails
  • Paved, private, gated drive
  • Pool and spa
  • Heated and cooled workshop with full bath

The home is tastefully decorated, if not a bit hotel-ish in feel. But 448 acres, 7 miles of mountain bike trails and your own swim hole? Now that's something worth aspiring to. Lance, throw in one of your countless yellow jerseys and maybe we can meet somewhere between you asking price and the $22.34 I've got in my wallet. A few more photos of Lance's digs over at Luxist also, including more excellent photos of the surrounding grounds.

So weird and unsettling that this was posted right after the "Learning to live small" post. Wonder if 'ole Lance is downsizing too?

His bedroom looks like a hotel room.

I like the painting over the fireplace, it reminds me of the Beatles' White Album!

Only purple.

His home seems soulless and I would rather not hear about him anymore.

If you want the real dish about Armstrong, his ego and his pad read what The Real Estalker had to say a few weeks ago: http://realestalker.blogspot.com/2009/01/lance-armstrongs-hill-country-hideaway.html

That corner lounge room with the couch and the fireplace is sooo nice.

I'd be sitting there talking to some one and looking out the window going "yes", "yes", "yes"..... "sorry, what did you say?"

It proves that material possessions do not make a HOME. the only things impressive are those windows looking out on Mother Nature.
I would prefer the 84sq ft home of the woman in Ore. to this.
But thanks for sharing.......

I think if it suits him (which it seems to) more power to him. I think (in spite of square footage) it shows restraint, and is both tailored and masculine.

I'd rather see these digs, the spoils of a very hard-won, very grueling life and career, then the latest home from Brangelina or Kanye West...

Yes it seems that Mr. Livestrong is a lothario, a phony, and has made no friends on the environmental front, has homes that use many times the water necessary to sustain a residential dwelling, and in our opinion has no taste (except for the vistas outside his windows) - the square footage of this home is actually very modest (in comparison to the McMansions and actual mansions his rich and famous friends own). It's been tallied at about 3K square feet (maybe without the guest house) and at about 4k square feet in the latest listings. How many 12 - 20k square feet "homes" do we see glorified in mainstream publications, swallowing our neighborhoods whole and while consuming so many resources, also taking over natural vistas, waterfronts, etc?

Yes the large mansions such as this are a bit excessive, although I do have to say I love his kitchen!!! I'd take just the kitchen/great room with the upstairs balcony (for a bedroom) and be completely happy with the space.

The limestone in the kitchen is very "to do" down here in Texas (yes I live in Austin) due to its natural abundance. It gives a different element than some of the more industrial and ultra modern looks I've seen on this site.

I love how different each city is with it's style from New York to Chicago to LA.

there's something weird and cgi-ish about these pics - like they were taken on the holodeck or something...

rockalita... the clarity of the air, maybe? It's very dry. In any case, it really does look like that.

Which brings me to... with the amazingness of that landscape, why does he insist on having so much grass?

looks like the perfect place to entertain prospective business partners, seal deals...instead of hunting, you go riding

maybe that's why it looks hotel-ish

The views are beautiful. Yes, the place is a monument to excess, but I don't believe for a single moment that anyone with the money Armstrong has would live in an 800-square-foot cabin. Get serious.

Khanzen-- you pinpointed what I was thinking. It looks like a hotel more than a home.
