Look! 1 Block, 3 Yellow Doors

011808_yellow.jpg

Going for a daily walk is a great way to notice trends in your neighborhood. Like when I walked down one street in Venice and realized that 3 of the houses had identically painted yellow front doors.

Call us crazy but we're pretty sure that the Blueprint Article on the "Stepped Up Stoop" started this whole craze. And we can't say that we blame anyone who gave it a shot, as we know, yellow can pack a good punch of energy. But 3 in 1 block? Do you think they organized it, or asked to use the leftover paint? Not only are they all on the same block, but 2 are next door to each other!

Would you paint your house, front door, or anything else the same color as your neighbor? Anyone have a neighbor blatantly copy them? Anyone own one of these 3 front doors that can answer our questions?

And finally, does this mean that yellow is over?

My parents live on Main Street in HIngham MA. We always laugh when giving directions and say "it's the white colonial w/ black shutters" because every house looks like that on that street. When we used to have a yellow door, everyone could find us!

That third door is the same door I've had on my last two houses, both 1920's bungalows. It's drafty as all get-out, and crackheads that knock on the door looking for money can see right in when i'm trying to hide, but I would never get rid of it - it's SUCH a great looking door. I love the yellow too!

Our neighbor a few houses down has a yellow door. Ours is Red. I wouldn't want to do the same color if I could help it, but you gotta do what you love!

Painting your door is a good idea as it signals a welcoming sign to your front stoop or porch. My parents once had a nice soft green on their front door which had been brown like the rest of the trim on that house although the house itself was gray.

Today my Mom lives in one half of a duplex owned by family friends and he painted her door a pretty cranberry-ish red, both the inside and out although the inside was not intentional and it turned out to be a great idea as it gave a shot of color to that corner of the living room, even if it may have darkened that corner a tad bit but not really a problem as it has a half moon light in the upper section to let in light and during the warmer months, it's left open and the screen door keeps criters etc out and is lockeable for some sense of security. Looks quite nice if you ask me.

I love these, they fit in so well with the neighborhood. The yellow is really lovely with the gray and the blue of the houses. I've never noticed that first one though, and I never realized that there were three on that block. I'll have to pay more attention when I'm walking the dogs next time.

What do you think of the yellow house a few blocks away?

I saved that article and had planned on doing the same to my 1940s colonial. It's currently red, but there are three almost identical houses on my block--so I think it would make it stand out. I'm taking suggestions if anyone else has any other ideas.
